Moon (Original Soundtrack) - Clint Mansell

First of all, this movie is incredible and I recommend it to anyone that enjoys a thoughtful and creative plot. The soundtrack… leaves me speechless. It dwells in a different plane of existence. It accented the movie wonderfully, and as I listen to it now on its own it would be hard to imagine the movie without it. From the opening piano riff that will never leave your mind after you hear it to the sob-worthy chords of “Memories,” this is one awesome soundtrack, and one of my favorites from the last couple of years. Composed by Clint Mansell, who consistently churns out gorgeous scores, this an album of music worth obsessing over for awhile, so immersive and emotional it feels like a film, even if you have never seen the one associated with this. The piano riff mentioned above pops up many times throughout, and you should be glad that it does. So many emotions (and the entire movie) feel as if they are wrapped up in a couple of notes, so simple and elegant, and unbelievably moving. The contrast contained within them is superb, with the quietest moments being the most tense while the louder moments are far more upbringing. It features relatively sparse instrumentation (nothing insanely complex going on here), but every piano key hit and soaring string played feels purposeful and for the furthering of the piece, which is a rare and wonderful thing.
